Synopsis:
A Call From Home tells the story of Dardan family: Andrii, Olena and their three kids. It starts with the characters explaining how they found out about the war starting - a call from their son from Canada. As the film goes forward, the characters talk about the horrors of living in occupation and panic among civilians.
Throughout their story, we see that despite the war they managed to remain human and that Ukrainians fight the feeling of helplessness by forming stronger and more substantial relationships with people around them, especially family members.
Director's Note:
A Call From Home was the first big project production-wise I've ever worked on. The topic of war in my home country discussed in this documentary motivated me to produce the best film possible, especially with my role being the director of photography. The entire crew combined all of our knowledge and skill to make this film happen; to tell the story of a Ukrainian family, who just like millions of other families lost everything because of the war and was forced to leave their home.
This is the first film my crew and I got recognition for. The film has started to be accepted to film festivals, and it felt truly special, because it felt like we've made a small impact on the situation by raising awareness.
